Bird Closet maintains a regular collage practice and has produced more than 200 collages, erasures, and poems to date. In the Bird Closet universe, collage is the voice of the birds, reconfiguring language and imagery from publicly available historical documents and other relevant literature to form a new language of agency. Bird Closet’s collages are utterances from a parallel universe to Bethel. They speak to lived experience, loss, longing, alienation, possible futures, and a collective desire for new forms of community, new modes of social imagination, and new images of Bethel.
